What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind and an important part of our everyday lives. Whenever your mind wanders, you are daydreaming or driving a familiar route, not knowing what happened on the last kilometre, you are in a state of hypnosis. Hypnosis is not a state of sleep or being unconscious, it is more a meditative-like state in which you are actually in an enhanced state of awareness, able to access any information stored in your subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind hosts your long-term memory, your emotions, habits and beliefs. The conscious mind on the other hand hosts the will-power and short-term memory, it is rational and analytical. But it has its limits. If you want to make changes in your life, willpower and logic are not enough to break habits, overcome fears or change your perception of life. Otherwise, it would be easily possible to change your life by simply thinking about it.

In hypnosis four abilities of the mind are enhanced: The ability to access memories, feelings, thoughts, and problem-solving skills. You can review past experiences in your subconscious mind and understand, where, when, how and why you formed those beliefs. Because you are only re-viewing, not re-living these memories, you are also able to look at your past from a different perspective and thereby alter the meaning you attached to the experience. This is all about choice, all about you. You can remove tags you have been labelled with and change false narratives you are telling yourself since.

You have the opportunity to go back in time and put things right.

 

It is all about helping your younger self cope and understand the

experience, and about meeting their needs: The needs of the young

child, the fifth grader, the teenager, the young adult, even

the younger self from just one month ago.

The whole process is incredibly liberating and followed by installing new powerful and supporting beliefs, mostly the exact opposite of the programs you were running before. In a hypnotherapy session it is YOU who is completely in control. You cannot be forced to say or do anything. All hypnosis is actually self-hypnosis. Only if you want to make changes yourselves, you will be successful and get lasting results.

If you decide you want some sort of change, it is important to first become clear on what you really want, how you want your life to look like, how you want to feel. When you have a vivid vision of what you want, a hypnotherapy session is a fabulous next step. Anything that is sabotaging you in achieving your goals will show itself when accessing the subconscious mind and asking the right questions.

What will come up are the limiting beliefs and self-doubts, accompanied by feelings of shame, anger, sadness or others. “I didn’t feel good enough, different, unloved” is what clients often say. And these feelings, these beliefs about themselves formed in one past experience are causing them to self-sabotage – stopping them from feeling how they would like to feel and from achieving the results they want!

What are Root Causes

Some special events have the ability to change existing beliefs or create new thought patterns which can be limiting to your perception of life. They even have the ability to change the biochemistry of your body. These are commonly called trauma. In the moment of trauma, you attach a meaning to a situation in order to help you cope. However, it also results in you becoming someone else in this moment.

None of your beliefs are really true because they are only your personal perception of life. But some are serving you very well while others are holding you back or sabotaging you.
